KFAI's Roots Saturday
KFAI Roots Saturday presents a CD RELEASE PARTY for THE GET-RITES new release “Tin Roof Sky”, Saturday, November 8. Opening the evening will be the MARK THOMAS STOCKERT BAND.
Since their conception in 2005 The Get-Rites have released three critically acclaimed CD's (Driven to my Knees, Side Show Revival and Pedal Steel Heaven) and now their fourth, Tin Rook Sky, which takes their sound to a new level.
Carrying on in the raucous gospel twang tradition of The Louvin Brothers, Gram Parsons, and Uncle Tupelo, The Get-Rites (Tom Feldmann on guitar and vocals, Paul Liebenow on upright bass and drummer Jed Staack) present a fresh, inspirational batch of country-blues-tinged material that melds, molds, and mixes all of those various influences with their own inimitable flair for lyrical intelligence, musical complexity, and soulful experimentation.
Described as, "masters of Americana music" (Dirty Linen Magazine), "authentic, retrospective and thought provoking" (AmericanaUK), "deserving all the publicity they can get" (Blues Revue Magazine), The Get-Rites are intent on spreading the Good News in song with their unique mixture of old school dirty, back-woods blues and shimmering, sloe-eyed country ballads.
Over the past ten years, Tom Feldmann has been touring both solo and fronting the Get-Rites, covering the continental U.S. and Canada sharing stages with BR5-49, David Lindley, Bastard Sons Of Johnny Cash, the Lee Boys, Kraig Johnson (Run Westy Run, The Jayhawks, Golden Smog), Dan Bern, Randy Stonehill, "Catfish" Keith, John Munson (Semisonic), Steve James, and many others.
Mark Thomas Stockert draws upon the cathartic inspiration your parents never warned you about. Stockert’s worked with several Twin Cities luminaries including Dave Schultz (The Nixon Pupils), Peter J. Sands (The Honeydogs), Peter Leggett (Heiruspecs), and Eclectone partner, Scott LeGere.
He describes his most recent release “Chatelaine Saloon as a process that consisted mainly of drinking, jamming, and "seeing what happens." What happened might be the sparsest record ever to credit 14 musicians (Stockert calls them the House of Strange Sounds Players) in its liner notes. It's a who's-who list of local alt-country players, culling talent from Big Ditch Road, Bellwether, and the Honeydogs.
"Someone told me it was Hank Williams meets Pink Floyd," Stockert says, and I agree, although Stockert's whispery baritone feels closer to Leonard Cohen's. Not that stretching for artistic reference points is even worth doing.
*KFAI's Root Music Saturdays" take place the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month.
Curator and host of tonight’s show is JACKSON BUCK, host of KFAI's Monday morning’s roots/Americana show “FREEWHEELIN”.
