Toby Cryns is the third oldest of seven children in the Cryns family.
At a young age, Cryns developed a penchant for seeking truths and new directions in life and art. Whether it was challenging authority at school, or shaping himself into an artistic, all-conference basketball player, Cryns was always found looking for new openings and ways to challenge foes. His music moves him further down this path of beautiful rebelliousness.
With honest and in-your-face lyrics that challenge the radio-friendly-pop status quo, Cryns tells tales of life and love and art in ways that will make even the most hardened of hearts open up. Influenced by the likes of Mason Jennings, Miles Davis, Cake, Ben Folds, and Jonathan Richman, Cryns makes music that fuses the country stylings of Johnny Cash with the raw energy of The Incredible Hulk.
Studying classical and jazz guitar for 4 years at the critically-acclaimed Millikin School of Music, Cryns picked up a wide array of skills and musical sensibilities that have allowed him the confidence to open up new musical avenues.
Cryns can be regularly seen touring nationally as well as regionally near his home base of Minneapolis, MN. |
